Tinnitus Treatment
Tinnitus is a condition where you hear sounds that do not come from an external source. It can be a beeping, roaring, ringing or buzzing sound that can vary in strength and frequency. Tinnitus can affect one's quality of life and cause stress, difficulty sleeping, concentration problems and depression.
Tinnitus is a complex phenomenon that can have different effects on different people. Certain occupations may pose a greater risk of developing tinnitus, such as musicians, industrial workers, military personnel and pilots. They are often exposed to high noise levels that can damage hearing and induce tinnitus. Therefore, it is important to protect your ears with hearing protection when you are in noisy environments.
Age is also a factor that can affect tinnitus. Over the years, hearing naturally deteriorates and this can lead to hearing more of your own blood flow or other body sounds that are perceived as tinnitus. Health problems that contribute to tinnitus are, for example, high blood pressure, diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
There are various causes of tinnitus, such as hearing damage, ear infections, wax plugs, age-related hearing loss, medications and diseases. The treatment of tinnitus depends on what is behind the problem and how much it bothers the sufferer.
There is no universal tinnitus treatment that works for everyone with tinnitus, but there are several methods that can help alleviate the problem.
Here are some of them:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) : It is a form of psychotherapy that aims to change one's thoughts and feelings about tinnitus. You learn to identify and challenge negative thought patterns that reinforce the problems and replace them with more realistic and positive thoughts. You also get strategies to deal with stress and anxiety that can make tinnitus worse.
- Tinearity: Consists of two small audio components that attach to adapters that are then attached behind the ears. Via the audio components, white noise is generated directly into the ears via the skull bone, leaving the ear canals free. During treatment, we recommend that you listen to white noise 6-8 hours per day for 6-24 months. The battery in the Tinearity G1 lasts up to 8 hours before it needs to be recharged. Tinearity can be used partly within the framework of TRT, partly as a masker to mask the tinnitus sound. The fact that the ear canals are kept free also means that Tinerarity can be used for a longer period without irritating the ear canal. Read more HERE .
- Sound therapy: This involves using background noise to mask or distract from the tinnitus sound. These can be natural sounds such as birds chirping, ocean waves or rain, or synthetic sounds such as white noise or music. You can use headphones, speakers or special devices that generate sound.
Approximately 70-80 percent of those who suffer or are bothered by tinnitus are helped by TRT. Regardless of what is causing one's tinnitus, there is hope for relief from the problem.
